Book Description

"Hear the Angels Sing"

This album is a collection of Mr. Wang Jiyan's fascinating photography featuring the performances of various children's choirs, along with their conductors, from home and abroad over the past decade. The photos, though soundless, somehow truly convey the spectacle, ambience and dynamics of the children's singing. Their singing, entwined with the sounds of nature, creates a rich, heavenly euphony.

The angelic nature of these young voices have a short lifespan for choral singing. Such fleeting beauty is not just an extracurricular school programme, but an important pathway for hereditary cultural transmission.

The folk songs and plateau dances performed by these children have neither been preserved by scores nor recorded through text, meaning that an oral tradition is vital when passing the works from generation to generation.

The DDP CD is also supplied with a book, which records the beautiful sound of "Quintessenso Children's Choir & China Philharmonic Orchestra", a minority children's choir originating from the Mongolian plateau and Xinjiang Pamir Mountains. Through their angelic voices, these children allow music that might otherwise have been lost to come alive.
